Halloween is nearly upon us which means it’s time to start thinking about your costume for the spooky celebrations this year but whether you’ve got a big budget or not, there’s no need to splash the cash on a fancy frightening costume if you’ve got an old suit lying around.
We’re going to be sharing with you our favourite 5 Halloween costumes that require an old suit and look seriously cool when you’re ready!
If you’re not feeling a super spooky costume but want something with a clear character behind it, grab a brown or tweed suit out of your wardrobe, add a Sherlock style hat and a pipe and you can turn up to your Halloween party at the world’s most famous detective.
An overcoat is optional but we’d also recommend adding in a magnifying glass to finish the look.
Another less creepy Halloween costume and more classic character, grab a blue suit you don’t mind partying in, wear a white shirt and jacket open and layer a superman t-shirt underneath, creating the classic look of Clark Kent before he breaks into his superhero lifestyle.
You can pick up superman t-shirts online for just a few pounds and most men already have a blue suit in their wardrobe. As there’s no blood or gore involved in this costume, you needn’t really worry about your suit being ruined!
If you’ve got an old suit and shirt you don’t mind roughing up (ruining) then a suited zombie is a fun and unique character to play.
Take some scissors and fake blood to your suit and shirt, either before or after putting it on, whatever is easiest. Mess up your hair, add some fake wounds and possibly even some blacked-out contact lenses to create your ‘risen from the dead’ look.
Men in Black
The perfect Halloween costume idea for two men to pull off together – the Men in Black.
A super affordable and easy Halloween costume to pull off and if you don’t want to damage your suit, you can avoid adding any extra blood and mess and just go for the classic MIB look.
Pair your white shirt and black tie with a black two-piece suit and a pair of classic black sunglasses before heading to the party as the ultimate duo.
Patrick Bateman from American Psycho
The perfect ‘kind of creepy/kind of cool’ Halloween costume, playing Patrick Bateman from American Psycho for Halloween allows you to look dapper in a suit while also adding a fake knife and a few splatters of blood here and there, just to keep things a little spooky.
You’ll need a navy or blue pinstripe suit to get in character and if you don’t own one you’re happy to mess up a little, we’d recommend looking in charity shops for a cheap one. Add a white striped shirt and red tie, a prop knife in your pocket and a little fake blood and you’re ready to go. If you’ve got a bit of length in your hair, we recommend scraping it back for the full look.
So, you needn’t panic if you get last-minute Halloween plans and need a costume ASAP, if you’ve got a suit then you’ve pretty much already got a costume sorted!
