best burger places near slaters

We love our grub here at Slaters, and we think it’s only fair to share our favourite food stops with you guys, as and when we find them.

There’s nothing we love more than a good burger, whether it be a classic cheese burger or something with all the toppings, they’re a perfect choice for any lunch, dinner or pre-sesh!

We’ve done our research, and tested the best burger joints near some of our 25 stores, and now we’re ready to let you in on everything you need to know when it comes to picking up a winning burger, wherever you are in the country.

Before we get in to the details, we thought we’d clarify what was taken into consideration when ranking our favourite burgers stops, so you can see just how serious we take this job!

Distance from their local Slaters store – we only want a short walk.

Number of Burgers on the menu – we like a choice and like to see some variety, but too much and we get far too overwhelmed.

Google Rating – because who doesn’t rely on google for almost everything?

Trip Advisor Rating – again, who doesn’t scope out Trip Advisor before going anywhere!

Bonus Points – Gluten Free options, Vegan options, anything else that makes them stand out.

As well as letting you know all the above features, we’ll also be giving each location our official Slaters rating, which of course is the most important to take into consideration!

Best Burgers in Manchester

The Laundrette, 13 Jack Rosenthal St, First St, Manchester, M15 4FN

Don’t be fooled by the name, no laundry is involved, just great food, amazing drinks and a super cool atmosphere.

The Laundrette is around a 20-minute walk from our Brown Street store, which we felt was very do-able, we like to think of it as our ‘pre-burger exercise’.

Burgers aren’t the main focus at The Laundrette, and they have an array of different dishes, but the 5 burgers they do have on the menu are very impressive. Whether you’re after beef, chicken or a veggie option, there is a burger to suit you.

All their burgers are served with fries and ‘bloody Mary ketchup’.

Bonus points are awarded to The Laundrette for having gluten free and vegetarian menus available on request!

Best Burgers in Glasgow

Bread Meats Bread, 104 St Vincent Street, Glasgow, G2 5UB

As you may know, Slaters HQ is based in Glasgow, so to say we’re familiar with the burger joints round here is probably an understatement, so choosing our favourites was tough.

Bread Meats Bread has made the final cut, and for a variety of very good reasons.

It is so cool! The restaurant we’re loving is in the centre of Glasgow, just a 13-minute walk from our Glasgow store to be precise! The atmosphere is always great in there!

On to the menu, they have a choice of 25 burgers… 25!! That amount is borderline overwhelming, but they break it down into 4 easy to digest sections, ‘Black Label Burgers’, ‘Red Label Burgers’, Chicken and ‘Green Label Burgers’ (veggie & vegan).

The choice is endless, and there’s some amazing combinations, but we highly rate the ‘Wolf of St Vincent Street’, a beef burger, with American cheese, crispy bacon and BBQ pulled pork… sounds good, doesn’t it?

Although they cover veggie and vegan options, they don’t openly advertise any gluten free options, however allergy information may be available on request!

Best Burgers in Edinburgh

Belted Burgers, 57a Frederick Street, Edinburgh, EH2 1LH

Occasionally we venture out of Glasgow, and when we make our way into Edinburgh, we always make a ‘B Line’ for Belted Burgers.

The vibe is a little more ‘upmarket’ than some burger joints, but we still find it a nice, easy-going place to eat, and Belted is just a 4-minute walk from our Edinburgh store on George Street.

The menu has a range of 18 different burgers, with a choice from beef, chicken and vegetarian!

We particularly like the sound of the ‘Bru Burger’, their premium beef patty, with slow cooked pulled pork in their signature Irn Bru BBQ sauce, with beer battered onion rings, grated cheddar and rocket.

Belted don’t openly advertise any gluten free options, but it’s always worth asking your server!

Original Patty Men, 9 Shaw’s Passage, Digbeth, Birmingham, B5 5JG

A busy city full of amazing burger places, but one stands superior above the rest for us, and that’s Original Patty Men.

The vibe of this restaurant is super cool, but it is always pretty busy! Be aware that you can’t reserve a table here so you may have to wait, but it is worth it, and if you can’t grab a table, you can order to take away!

Original Patty Men is just 12-minutes’ walk from our Birmingham store, making it an ideal destination for a quick lunch break.

The burger menu is pretty small, but it’s the perfect amount of choice for a quick stop, and they cover beef, chicken and a vegetarian option, so it keeps everyone happy!

Their ‘big’ burger has to be the ‘Big Verns’ Krispy Ring, an aged longhorn beef patty, maple coated bacon, American cheese, ketchup & mustard, served in a grilled glazed doughnut…. Yes, A DOUGHNUT!

Best Burgers in Bristol

The Burger Joint, 83 Whiteladies Road, Bristol, BS8 2NT

This one is very exciting! The Burger Joint has 3 locations in Bristol, but the one on Whiteladies Road is the closest to our store in The Galleries on Union Street, a 26-minute walk (trust us, it is worth it).

Unlike any of the other burger stops we’ve mentioned, The Burger Joint doesn’t have a conventional menu, they work on a ‘build your own’ basis, so the combinations you can create is endless!

They’ve created a simple 5 step process to designing your perfect burger:

  1. Choose your bun (gluten free bun and no bun options available)
  2. Choose your burger (beef, chicken, veggie and vegan are all available)
  3. Choose your toppings (we recommend you go wild, hash browns on a burger really does work!)
  4. Choose 2 free sauces (they’re served on the side)
  5. Choose 1 free side (however paying the extra £1.50 for parmesan and truffle fries sounds like a good call)

We’d also recommend checking out their website as they have some great information about their veggie and allergen friendly products.

Best Burgers in Cardiff

The Grazing Shed, 37 St Mary Street, Cardiff, CF10 1AD

The Grazing Shed really caught our eye as one of the best burger stops in Cardiff, they pride themselves on using good quality ingredients and have been voted the No.1 Burger Joint in Wales, and we can see why!

They have a vast array of burgers on the menu, with 21 options across their 4 categories of Beef, Double Beef, Chicken and Veggie/Vegan.

The Grazing Shed gets extra points for having a vegan burger, but it was the ‘Hula Hula’ beef burger that was taking our fancy, a 6oz welsh beef burger with melted mozzarella, grilled pineapple, smokey bacon, spicy mango sauce, ‘Boom Boom’ mayo and lettuce!

We can’t see any specialist gluten or dairy free options but it is always worth asking!

Best Burgers in Leeds

Almost Famous, 23-25 Great George Street, Leeds, LS1 3AL

If you haven’t heard of Almost Famous Burgers then where have you been? They have restaurants in Manchester, Liverpool and of course, Leeds, which is located just a 6-minute walk away from our Slaters store on Albion Street.

Although they have their ‘not burger’ options, it’s the burgers we’re here for. Their menu has an array of 13 burgers, ranging from simple, to the ‘Filthiest Show in Town’, which is topped with cheese, chorizo, pepperoni, fried mozzarella, shoestring onions, parmesan, ‘Mumma’s Red Sauce’, French’s mustard and dynamite (yes dynamite…you will have to pay them a visit to find out just how explosive we are talking here).

If you’re gluten free, ask your waiter about their special menu, it offers 5 different burgers, and some sides that are all good for you to have!

Best Burgers in Aberdeen

The Boozy Cow, 67 Langstane Place, Aberdeen, AB11 6EN

First of all, we love the name! The Boozy Cow is just a 1 minute walk from our Slaters Aberdeen store, on Bon Accord Street.

The Boozy Cow have stores in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Dundee and Stirling!

The atmosphere and décor is very cool, and the menu is also something to shout about! They have a selection of 8 beef burgers and also some chicken, fish and veg burgers!

Bonus points are also being awarded to the Boozy Cow for being so great with gluten free, some of their beef burgers can be made GF, as well as having 2 special gluten free burgers!

Google Rating: 4.2/5                      Trip Advisor Rating: 4/5 Slaters Rating: 4.1/5

Best Burgers in Liverpool

Free State Kitchen, 1 Maryland Street, Liverpool, L1 9DE

The Free State Kitchen describe themselves as a contemporary twist on American classics, and we’re always up for that!

Their Maryland Street restaurant is a 17-minute walk from our Slaters store on Williamson Street, making it easily accessible on any shopping trip.

Their burgers or ‘handhelds’ as they call them, come served medium unless you request otherwise and are served with fresh rosemary salted fries!

They have 7 burgers on the menu, one of which is their ‘herby chicken burger’ and one veggie burger that can be made vegan on request.

We’re always drawn to the biggest burger on the menu, so it’s no surprise that their ‘Double Deluxe Burger’ caught our attention, we’re talking about two 5oz patties, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, fresh onion and FSK secret sauce.

They also often have gluten free bread available, so we’d recommend asking your server if that is possible!

Fat Hippo Underground, 2-6 Shakespeare Street, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE1 6AQ

This is definitely the best kept secret in Newcastle, Fat Hippo Underground is an edgy, cool burger joint with coloured lighting and high tables, the perfect burger stop for any pre-lad’s night out dinner.

Take a trip down to Fat Hippo after visiting our store, it’s only a 7-minute walk!

Although the drinks are something special, it’s their burgers that are talk of the town! Their menu has a range of beef, chicken and veggie burgers, with 16 to choose from in total.

If you’re into unusual flavour combinations, you might want to try their PB & J beef burger; double 4oz patty, topped with chunky peanut butter, cheese and homemade bacon jam.

We also love this place for their dedication to dietary requirements, be sure to check out their dedicated vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and dairy free menus!
