Get to Know Chez Rust – #SuitUpStandOut

When we asked customers how a suit made them feel we were inspired to hear stories of the positive impact it had on them. This led us to create the ‘Suit Up, Stand Out’ campaign. We teamed up with entrepreneurs, fashion icons and health/wellbeing experts to encourage others to lead a live of confidence, character and motivation. #SuitUpStandOut

Hi Chez! Can you tell the readers a little bit about yourself?

I’m Chez, 26 and I’ve been a full-time model/blogger/influencer for just over two years now and started to really get into fashion and this industry about 3 years ago. Before that I had a few different jobs like most people, I left school and was working on building sites but soon realised that wasn’t for me, then I was working in letting which was my job before moving into this. Everything really took off when I started posting my outfits on Instagram, and within a year my Instagram blew up – things got to the point where I could focus on it full time and I didn’t want to look back in 10 years whishing I’d gone for it! It’s the best decision I could have made. Now In just enjoy life and try to keep things moving in the right direction – thankful for every opportunity that comes my way.

What does a normal day look like in the life of Chez Rust?

An average day will always start with coffee, emails and then I’m good to go for the day. The rest of it (depending on if I have to be anywhere for a shoot or not) will be going to the gym, often once in the morning and once in the evening, and then shooting content for brands which is one of the real highlights of the job for me.

Any campaigns you’ve worked on that have been stand outs for you?

The two that stick out the most to me are 1.) the Loreal Paris x Princes Trust campaign that also had the likes of Cheryl and Helen Mirren 2.) Being the UK face of Loreal Men Experts BarberClub range in a global campaign. Those campaigns have been big highlights in my career so far. Both meant a lot as I applied to model agencies when I was about 21 and was rejected. Being in campaigns like those, on billboards, in ads – all off my own back – reminds me that turning a negative into a positive can work if you stick at it. Also – another cool thing I did recently was in France where I shot and worked out with Lewis Hamilton for Puma, that was pretty surreal!

Sound like a lot of fun, and when you’re not on the job?

I love spending time with my family and friends. The older I get, the more I appreciate spending quality time with them. I’m also a massive football fan so love to play on a Saturday afternoon, if I’m not doing any of that I’ll be in the gym.

As a stylish guy, where do you get your fashion inspiration from? Any sources of inspiration?

To be honest I pull most of it together myself – if I like something I’ll wear it, if I think certain pieces will look good together then I’ll go with it. I do get some of my inspiration from people I follow on Instagram who I think are cool. You’ve got David Beckham and David Gandy who I’m a big fan of, but the main thing is to feel comfortable in what you’re wearing.

You all looked great in suits – how was your experience when you went into the initial fitting at Slaters?

I have been so impressed with everything to do with Slaters from the fitting to the shoot. The initial fitting was such a great experience, the size of the Manchester store surprised me at first as I’d never seen so many suits in my life! I was looked after and given so much help with choosing the perfect suit, shoes, tie and pocket square to complete the look. Really, really impressed! Everyone was lovely.

How did you enjoy being part of the campaign? Your first foray into film! Any highlights?

I really loved the idea of the campaign and was excited to see what we could create with such a great team. It’s always good being surrounded by creative and like-minded people so I enjoyed the shooting. The only struggle way the part where I had to get an iPhone on an iPhone dock in one go, not an easy task! No one take wonders for filming that part.

A fun way to kick off Autumn -big plans for the rest of the year, what’s next?

The plan is to keep improving every day – continue what I’m doing, moving in the right direction and keep working on great campaigns with great brands like this one. I have some more exciting shoots coming up before the end of the year so looking forward to those too!
