Our Favourite Ways to Wear Tartan Casually

Did you know that April 6th is officially known as Tartan Day? Not just here in Scotland but around the world, men and women are encouraged to incorporate tartan into their wardrobes for the day but as we’re a Scottish born and bred business, we want to see people wearing tartan all the time!

We’ve spoken a lot on the blog about how you can wear tartan for a formal occasion, so today we’re going to turn our attention towards how you can sport a tartan print for a more casual affair and luckily for you, it’s very easy to do!

  1. The Tartan or ‘Checked’ Shirt

Did you know that the cool and casual ‘checked’ shirt you’ve got hanging up in your wardrobe is technically a tartan print? The majority of lumberjack style shirts are actually made using a tartan style check, just in a variety of different colours and they’re a popular casualwear item that most men already have in their collection.

Simply wear open over a t-shirt or buttoned up with an open collar, pair with your favourite pair of jeans and a pair of cool trainers and you’re done! Doesn’t get much easier than that does it?

  1. The Tartan Scarf

A super versatile accessory to have in your wardrobe for both casual and formal wear, a tartan scarf can brighten up any outfit and be styled in so many different ways.

When it comes to wearing a tartan scarf casually, you really can throw it on with anything. Our favourite look is a t-shirt and a pair of jeans with an overcoat and tartan scarf layered on top. Add a pair of brogues or ankle boots and your look is complete!

  1. The Tartan Blazer

Ideal for those smart casual occasions, a tartan print blazer is the perfect middle ground between wearing a suit and really dressing down, as well as being seriously stylish.

A lot of check tweed blazers mimic a tartan print, so they’re very easy to pick up online and on the high street and if you choose a versatile colour, you can wear it in so many different ways!

Perfect for pairing with an open neck shirt, pair of jeans and pair of brogues, this really is your ultimate night out attire!

  1. The Tartan Trouser

Also known traditionally as ‘trews’, tartan trousers were at one time considered an entirely formal style but in recent years, this bold trouser style has become part of many men’s casual wardrobes too.

They might be a bit of a statement but styled right a pair of tartan trousers can be a seriously cool look for a low key drink with friends or simply going about your daily life.

To let the trousers do the talking but still keep things casual, pair your trews with a plain black or white t-shirt and a plain coloured pair of trainers, the perfect outfit for a relaxed night out!

Tartan can feel like a bold pattern to wear but these are just a few of the easy ways you can incorporate tartan into your casual wardrobe and if you ask us, it’s pretty easy to do!
