Summer is now in full swing and many groups of lads have already jetted off for a break in the sun but if you’re still working on planning your boys’ holiday for this year and are looking for suggestions for where to head, here is the Slater Menswear guide to booking a lads’ holiday in Europe!
If your motto is generally ‘go big or go home’ then Ibiza really is the place for you. Known for being one of the party capitals of the world, Ibiza isn’t a cheap week away but it is certainly a memorable one.
With high-class clubs and bars on offer as well as your more affordable party spots along the strip, Ibiza really does have something to offer everyone and if you want to ditch the drinking for a few days and relax on the beach or do something a little more cultural, Old Town Ibiza can even provide you with a tranquil escape from the mayhem.
According to a holiday experiment conducted year after year by MixMag, a week in Ibiza regularly costs over £1000, so if you’re on a budget this may not be the one for you but if you’re in the mood to head on a boys’ holiday you’ll never forget, get your plane tickets to Ibiza booked now!
The idyllic Greek island of Zante has become known as a go-to destination for both lads’ and girls’ holiday’s thanks to the impressive party scene on offer out there, so if you’re wanting a week of drinking, dancing and occasionally relaxing on the beach, Zante could be perfect.
Thought to be more on the affordable side in comparison to Ibiza, mainly due to not having as much publicity around some of the clubs and bars, Zante could be your perfect holiday destination, with boat parties in abundance that also won’t break the bank.
The flight to Zante from most English airports is under 4 hours, so you won’t have to wait long to get the party started either.
Portugal is probably one of the most versatile countries in the world, with different areas offering different types of holidays for all ages and interests but Albufeira is thought of as one of the party hotspots of Portugal.
A short flight time of under 3 hours from England, Albufeira is similar to Zante in the sense that thanks to having less ‘Instagram famous’ bars and clubs, the cost of a night out is generally lower but the strip still offers plenty of great destinations for partying the night away.
Albufeira does have some similarities to Ibiza such as being split into an ‘old’ and a ‘new’ town with the old town being quieter and a more cultural getaway, so if you do fancy mixing up your boys’ holiday and spending a day exploring beaches and local landmarks, you can do that here.
If you fancy more of a city break in the sun opposed to a week of partying, a long week in Prague could be just what you need.
Steeped with history and culture but also famous for its beers, Prague offers the option to explore during the day and still party at night which is the perfect combination if you only have a few days off work to get away somewhere out of the UK.
European cities can often be pricey due to the high amount of tourists visiting, so opting for this kind of holiday as opposed to a beach break somewhere can take its toll on your bank account but arguably, with the variety of things on offer for you to do, you could say you get more for your money on a city break.
A destination on many people’s bucket lists, Amsterdam is known for being one of the ‘must-see’ places in the world and regularly attracts groups of lads’ for long weekends.
From having an iconic strip of bars and clubs, unique to anywhere else in the world as well as being littered with tourist attractions including the famous Anne Frank house, there’s so much to do both day and night in Amsterdam that you really will be on the go for your whole time there, especially if you just go for a few days.
Similarly to Prague, Amsterdam prices can be a little higher than places such as Zante and Albufeira particularly for alcoholic drinks but they’re two totally different holidays and if you’re wanting a short break with a jam-packed itinerary, there really is no better option than Amsterdam.
Our third city break recommendation for a boys’ getaway has to be Budapest and that’s because it offers that same busy schedule of things to do as Prague and Amsterdam whilst being totally unique in its own right.
A short flight time of under two and a half hours from England and promises of great weather during the summer months, Budapest has castles and local landmarks to explore, as well as plenty of great pubs and bars to visit throughout the day and during the evening for a local pint.
As with the other cities, there’s not really an all-inclusive option on a city break but our top travel tip for holidays in places such as Budapest, Amsterdam or Prague is booking a bed and breakfast or hotel where breakfast is included to ensure one meal of the day is sorted and you will probably save yourself money by doing so across the holiday.
So, whether you’re wanting to party the week away and or take in a bit of culture on your holiday, these are the European destinations we recommend for a holiday with the lads.
Once you’re booked, it’ll be time to pack, so don’t forget to head online to the Slater Menswear holiday shop to get all your summer clothes sorted.
