Spring is the perfect season to book a cheeky little city break. Whether you go with your other half, your family or a few of your best mates, jetting away for a long weekend is well needed by the time we reach spring but where are the best places to visit?
We’ve done our research, taking everything into consideration and have compiled a list of the ultimate top 10 city breaks to book during the spring months and here they are:
According to the Telegraph, there’s no better place to visit than Paris during spring! Not only is Paris only a couple of hours on a plane away from the UK, making it perfect for a quick trip over the weekend, the French capital is famous for showcasing one of the most stunning spring blooms.
Paris really becomes a city full of colour in the spring after going into pretty much complete hibernation during winter, so if you want to see a city come to life, Paris is the place to visit from the end of March onwards.
If you want to combine city life with beaches and throw in some good weather too, Malaga is perfect for a quick break during April. Less well known as a city break destination than the likes of Barcelona and Madrid but Malaga actually tops the temperatures of those two cities by a few degrees – boasting highs of 21C in April.
Plenty to see and do while the sun is shining, you’re guaranteed to come back from Malaga relaxed.
Visiting Rome in spring isn’t just enjoyable but a smart decision too. Once summer hits, the Italian capital is busy from the start of the season to the end, making local prices go up and the sights nearly impossible to see, never mind how hot it gets, so heading over a couple of months earlier is a great idea.
Still pleasantly warm with highs of around 18C but the crowds are far less daunting to deal with as the city is quieter as a whole, so why not book a trip to Rome during spring?
According to online travel agent, Expedia, Berlin is a perfect holiday destination for April and the coming spring months, especially if you’re happy to lace up your walking boots and get moving!
Not for those looking to lie on a beach and get some spring sun but perfect for the active holidaymaker, if you push your spring break back until May, you could enjoy temperatures nearing 20C in Berlin, which makes stomping the streets and sightseeing a pleasure.
In the opinion of the team at Travel Republic, Valencia is a guaranteed good time in May, making it a perfect spring holiday destination.
With highs of up to 23C in mid-May, Valencia offers all that classic Spanish beauty with a little more of a calm vibe, removing you from the real hustle and bustle that the likes of Madrid and Barcelona have to offer.
Plenty to see and do as well as more than enough shops to keep you occupied all weekend, Valencia is a stunning choice for a long weekend away during spring.
- New York
If you’ve got the time and budget to travel a little further afield then New York needs to be the next city on your bucket list – especially for a spring break!
Many travel experts and enthusiasts don’t recommend New York in the heights of summer or the depths of winter, especially for sightseeing, so if you want to get the most out of this city of life and adventure, Spring is a far better time to visit.
You’ll still see the hustle and bustle of the city in full swing but with highs of up to around 20C as opposed to the sweltering heat of summer.
Portugal is one of those countries that is pretty much nice all the time but spring is a perfect time to pay Lisbon a visit.
A city that offers the perfect combination of sightseeing and sunbathing, Lisbon has it all and even in Spring can still offer temperatures ranging from the low to mid 20s!
Both locals and visitors advertise Amsterdam as being at its best in spring. Mild in temperature but totally alive with all the action of the city being in full swing as the busy tourist season approaches.
Similarly to Paris, Amsterdam becomes a scene of so many colours in the springtime and the slightly warmer weather allows for you to comfortably make your way around the city’s sights by foot, taking in all it has to offer – including the great beer!
In their roundup of the top holiday destinations for spring, Love Holidays named Seville as a ‘perfect city break’ and we couldn’t agree more.
One of the most aesthetically stunning and culturally interesting destinations in Spain, Seville is a bit of a hidden gem in this tourism orientated country. There’s architecture to enjoy, sights to see and in spring, a comfortably warm temperature to enjoy.
A city with culture at the core (and great pubs), Prague is a fantastic choice for a springtime city break and if you can hold off going on your holiday until May, you can enjoy temperatures in the early 20s!
There’s plenty to see and do in this city, so if you head over here with the boys, there’ll never be a dull moment!
So, if you were wondering where to go on holiday in spring, these are our top 10 city break recommendations for the season!
